slydial Officially Opened to the Public With New Features
Back in April I wrote this post, 5 Reasons to Use SlyDial, A Service That Connects You Directly To Someone’s VoiceMail, which at the time slydial was in private beta. Yesterday that all changed and slydial is now open to the public and sporting new features. Just to recap, slydial allows you to call a someone’s mobile phone and have your call sent directly to voicemail without their phone rining. This is a nice service for when you don’t want to speak to the person but want to leave a voice message.
slydial can be used without registering for an account though if you sign up for an account you have access to a couple of great feautures.
- Dial By Name — Once you add someone as a slydial contact, you don’t
have to remember or enter their full phone number anymore. Just dial
267-SLYDIAL and enter the first four digits of their slydial nickname
to connect to their mobile voicemail. - Click 2 slydial — At your computer? Click on the “Click 2 slydial”
icon next to your slydial contact and slydial will call your phone.
Once you answer, you will be connected directly to that contact’s
voicemail.
When you register you are given the option of staying with an ad supported free account or a premium account with a pay per use fee of $0.15 per slydial or an unlimited use subscription for $4.95 per month or $29.95 per year.
Their website has been updated and really is quite nice and easy to use. Right off the bat you are given the phone number to dial if you don’t want to register an account, 267-slydial (267-759-3425). Nice and simple. Registering is easy and something I recommend doing in order to take advantage of their new feautures.
slydial works with all major U.S. wireless carriers and calls can be made from a mobile or landline phone. It would be nice to see slydial in more countries, hopefully that is coming soon.
Since registering for an account it occurred to me that it would be nice if I could group contacts, like family, and then be able to send out a group message, say to remind everyone of an upcoming event. This could be part of their premium service and I think would make a nice addition.
What do you think? Is slydial a service you would use and for what situations?

Apple Reduces Prices on Refurbished iPods
Apple just announced that they reduced their prices on refurbished iPods including the iPod Touch. For the iPod Touch the price is $100 less than if you buy it new. That may be just enough to say it’s worth getting a refurb iPod than an a new one.
Refurbished iPod touch. Apple certified, good as new. Special pricing starts at $199.

I have an iPod Touch and absolutely love it. My one wish is that it had a camera in it then it would be the perfect gadget for me. I use my Touch all the time, to listen to music and audio books and connect to the internet when a wireless network is in range. I can connect to the internet and check my email when I am at the pool at my apartment complex because someone has an open wireless network. It’s great!
So, if you are in the market for an iPod you may want to look at getting a refurbished one and save some money.
