4 Tools That Make Twitter Easier For Me (and Maybe You)
There are quite a few different Twitter applications that people have developed to make Twitter easier to use. For an extensive list of applications check out the Twitter Fan Wiki but I thought I would share with you the 4 tools that have made Twitter easier to use for me.
I use Firefox as my primary browse and two of the applications I use are dependent on Firefox (or Flock). So my 4 tools are as follows.
1. TwitBin: This is a Firefox extension that uses the sidebar to send and receive messages. I use it mainly to follow my friends and send off a quick tweet or two. You can select to follow only your friends or the public stream of messages and have messages refreshed every 1, 5 or 10 minutes.
Twitbin is my way of staying connected to my Twitter friends while I browse the net. There is a button on your Firefox toolbar to control opening and closing the sidebar.
2. TwittyTunes: This is a great Firefox extension that was developed to be used with FoxyTunes to submit music to Twitter. When used in conjuction with FoxyTunes when you submit a song you are listening to the link created goes to FoxyTunes Planet which gives a nice mashup of information on the artist/band. (Click here to read my review of these applications.)
You can use TwittyTunes without FoxyTunes if you so choose. You can submit the site you are currently browsing and what is really nice is that the application creates a tiny url so you don’t have to.
I use TwittyTunes quite frequently both to let my friends know what I am listen to and also to submit sites of interest. What I like is that the application figures out how many characters I have left in a message with the url. Before TwittyTunes I found it a pain to submit a link to a url.
3. Egorcast: This is a pretty neat application that lets you post to Twitter (and/or Jaiku and Wordpress) by using a service called Jott where you can call in a voice message from your cellphone and have it transcribed and posted. I love this application because it takes me so long to type a text message on my cellphone that it’s not worth it to try and send a message to Twitter.
With Egorcast I just call Jott on my cellphone, create a voice message for egorcast and let the application do the rest. Read my full review here. I love being down at the pool or out with friends and be able to post a tweet on Twitter with ease.
4. Twitterfeed: This great little application posts blog entries to Twitter automatically. All you have to do is set it up and let the application do its work. This blog post will automatically be posted to Twitter and I don’t have to lift a finger.
The only drawback you might find is that Twitterfeed only excepts certain logins. It uses OpenID, Yahoo, LiveJournal, Wordpress.com and Vox logins. I have an OpenID so it wasn’t a problem for me (I really like OpenID).
So, there is my list for you. What tools/applications are you using to make Twitter easier to use?
