Catch Up With What’s Happening On The Web With Fichey

Do you check out Digg and del.icio.us each day to see what is happening on the web? I do which has made me a fan of a new application call fichey. With fichey I can easily scan web pages from Digg, del.icio.us, Reddit and StumbleUpon. There is also a bookmarking service called downfly included which is a creation of Billy Chasen, creator of fichey.

Fichey

The beauty of fichey is that you don’t have to click through to individual websites. Instead the application shows pages using flash and displays them in a “microfiche”-like format, hence it’s name fichey. I circled the small ”microfiche” control panel in the above photo showing how unobtrusive fichey is on a page. The design reminds me of thumbing through a magazine, each site rendering displaying quickly in front of me. When I found a site I wanted to check out I just double clicked on the page and was able to navigate the page. A couple of options appear at the top of the page to either go back to fichey or go to the original link.

My only point of contention is that if I click through to the original link I lose my place in fichey. Of course the work around is to open the original link in a new tab or window. Other than that I love the ease of flipping through sites from the web’s most popular social bookmarking sites to see what is catching people’s eyes on a given day. I’ve added fichey to my favorites toolbar so that I can easily access it each day.
