I started a new blog called Simple Tech Today which is to make the world of technology available to novices – computers, electronics, gadgets, software and the internet.  It still deals with some general topics but is more aimed at computer and internet novices.

If you are more than a novice it doesn’t mean that Simple Tech Today is not for you.  Actually I need you, whether you are a beginner or advanced user to read articles, comment on the articles.  For the beginner leave comments if something is not clear or use my Contact form to ask a question that I will try and answer for you in a post.  If you are an advanced user I would love for you to leave comments with additional information I may have excluded from a post or help answer a question from someone who has left a comment.

And, of course please subscribe to Simple Tech Today either by  RSS Feed or email updates.

For the time being I will keep posting links to this blog but it may take me a while to figure out how I want to precede, whether to come back and write again, rethink the purpose of the blog or hopefully not, stop the blog completely.

These are the features that helped me set up the theme this afternoon.

• Feedburner Integration. It was nice not to have to make sure that all of my feed icons and subscriptions pointed to my Feedburner feed. I just had to enter my Feedburner address under the theme’s options and I was all set.
• SEO Optimized. The meta and title tags are optimized for search engines.
• Customizable sidebar. The sidebar includes a Popular Post section where you can select a category to display and splits into 2 smaller sidebars, widget enabled, below it. I also added Recent Comments section and then under the smaller sidebars put in another larger sidebar. It was easy just copying and pasting items in the style sheet and then in the Main Index Template.
• Adsense Integration. It was easy for me to set up the Adsense unit positioned at the top of the sidebar.

There is an alternative layout where the Adsense unit is replaced with 6 125 x 125 ad blocks for those that host that kind of advertising seen below.

I am still playing around with the layout. Some areas that I am working with include

• playing around with the theme colors to match my Infomania World splash page.
• integration of ads like the Blue Host and Apple Store ads in the sidebar and the Amazon product tag cloud located on the single post pages.
• updating the blogroll with similar blogs…let me know if you would like to be included.
• seeing if I can take some of the information in the sidebar and put it in the footer, like my del.icio.us links and Recent Posts.

I have some work to do over the next few days including categorizing posts and uploading images that were lost even though I had a backup of my data.  I’m a bit perplexed by losing the images, maybe they will miraculously reappear as quickly as they disappeared.  I’m just happy I still have my posts.

So begins a new chapter for Confessions of an Infomaniac.  I am hoping to add more video and audio to my posts now that I have the most current version of WordPress, something I didn’t have under XOOPs.
