Control Your Media Player In Your Browser With FoxyTunes
I have been listening to a lot of music while I surf the web using Winamp (a nice alternative to Windows Media Player if you are using a PC) and found myself switching between my browser and Winamp to control my music. In my quest to make listening to music easier I came across FoxyTunes, an application that adds a status bar/toolbar allowing you to control your media player within your browser.
FoxyTunes was designed as an extension for Firefox but just recently it is offered as a plug in for Internet Explorer. Sweet, now I can control Winamp in either browser (I use both depending on the work I am doing). The Firefox extension is more refined and is compatible with 31 media players (including streaming radio like Pandora) while the Internet Explorer plugin is compatible with only 18 media players. Still, not bad considering it works with Winamp and that is my media player of choice.
With FoxyTunes you can
- see what is currently playing
- control volume
- seek back and forth for tracks
- collapse panes to minimize size in status bar/toolbar
- show and hide your media player
- change the look with skins
- find and display information about artist/band, album and song
FoxyTunes works with MS Windows, Linux and Mac OS X and is a great little application for anyone who listens to music while surfing the web.
