Create Your Own Ringtone with Phonezoo
Why pay for cellphone ringtones for music that you already own? Isn’t there an easy way to ringtones with your own music? Phonezoo is just the answer. It’s a simple and fast way to make your own ringtones, share them with others and find ringtones others have made. I’ve been having fun with Phonezoo this afternoon, browsing ringtones and then creating one of my own.
Phonezoo is a simple way to make ringtones as long as all you want to do is take a clip, up to 20 seconds, of music or sound from an MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A and WMA file. All I needed to do was upload my file and then select the clip I wanted for my ringtone. I uploaded Avril Lavigne’s song Complicated and selected the first 12 seconds of the song as my ringtone. I then saved the ringtone and sent it to my phone. (You can check it out here)![]()
I marked my ringtone so that it is shared with the Phonezoo community. Since Avril Lavigne’s music is copyrighted, I marked it as such. What that means is if someone else wants to use my ringtone they need to upload the song Complicated as proof they own the song. Then, they can send the ringtone to their phone. Or, they can create their own ringtone based on another section of the song.
There are ringtones that are user created content and can be sent directly to your cellphone. I already have the Jetsons Theme and the Flintstone’s yabadabadoo. A featured ringtone right now is a turkey gobbling just in time for Thanksgiving.
To create and send ringtones to your cellphone you will need to join Phonezoo. You also need a supported cell phone in order to send ringtones. When you sign up for Phonezoo you will find out if your phone is supported. It looks like Nextel doesn’t allow third party content and Verizon’s RAZR is a problem. My phone was supported without any problem.
If you have a supported cellphone and music you own that you would like to make into ringtones then Phonezoo is a great application to make, share and find free your ringtones.
However, if you want more editing capabilities to create your own ringtone then I suggest reading Make a ringtone from any mp3 on Lifehacker. I used the procedure documented in this article to make an old-fashioned phone ringing tone with a free clip I found online. I couldn’t do that with Phonezoo though I did upload the ringtone to share with others — listen to it here.
Either way, don’t pay for ringtones when you can create your own!
