Do you do Google News?
The answer to this question for me is usually no but Steve Rubel over at Micro Persuasion asked the question, What’s On Your Google News? pointing out that you can personalize Google News with your own custom sections with perpetual searches of keywords/phrases.
So, I took Steve up on his challenge to create my own Google News page with sections for
I also included a few standard sections to complete my Google News page which you can view here. If you have a Google account you need to log out of it before you can view my page. And, if you like my news page you can save it as your own!
I do like the ability to have the perpetual search for news items about topics that I find interesting. Over time I may add a few more. It’s a nice way to have a quick scan of topics that may be of value for my blog from news sources. I also can subscribe to my custom headings and add them either to my Netvibes page or Google Reader.
The only thing I wish for is the ability to get rid of the top stories section since I am not interested in stories that aren’t contained in any of my sections.
So, I think I will do Google news. Steve’s post convinced me to try it out and I have thought of a couple of ways I can use it to enhance my daily reading.
