Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Sidebar & Widgets With KlipFolio For Windows PCs
Thanks to Ed Oswald over at BetaNews and his article, KlipFolio Adds Sidebar Functionality, I now have a nice, light, customizable sidebar sans Vista with over 4000 widgets to choose from to make it mine. In a previous post, Transform Windows XP to look like Vista, I wrote about loving the sidebar that came with the Vista Transformation Pack , but now I have to say I am enamored with KlipFolio after downloading and setting up and playing around with it. Call me fickle!
In order to run KlipFolio you need to be running Microsoft Windows 2000, XP or Vista. So, even if you are using Vista you may want to check out the application and all of the widgets out, or klips as they are called. I definitely like the light feeling of KlipFolio against Google Desktop and the ability to add transparency ala Vista to the sidebar with different skins that can be applied. There is even a Vista skin.
Some of the features of KlipFolio are
built-in RSS support to monitor your favorite feeds.
klips covering gaming, news, software downloads, photos, music & podcasts, email monitors, videos & webcams, movies & TV and useful tools like cpu and memory monitors.
the ability to place klips along any screen edge, anchored or set to auto-hide.
liquid layouts where klips flow around your desktop as you drag and drop them.
as small of a footprint as you want since klips are tiny until you expand them out.
the ability to set up desktop alerts for keywords or new articles in any clip so you are notified when any change occurs.
I can have multiple sidebars running on my dual-monitor system and really have fun playing around with the liquid layout capability. On one monitor I can have klips auto-hide on the left side of the screen while on the second monitor have klips auto-hide on the top edge of the screen while having certain klips stay in a permanent bar on the bottom of my screen. The options seem endless.0

I watch a lot of television on my second monitor and having my MeeVee feed of upcoming television shows based on my preferences is a nice klip that I have floating on that monitor. No more having to open up my Netvibes page to look and see what is coming up on television in the next few hours that I may be interested in (MeeVee is a nice television schedule that you can customize based on television channels and genre, it’s pretty neat).
I still have more klips to explore and more customizing of skins to do on both my desktop and laptop computers. If you have been searching for a customizable sidebar that is light, easy to use but flexible, offers different skins and transparency levels then I strongly suggest that you check out KlipFolio.
Oh, and did I mention, it’s free. My kind of bargain!
