EgorCast Uses Jott to Transcribe Spoken Messages for Twitter & Jaiku

Are you tired of trying to type in your tweets to Twitter and Jaiku messages on your mobile phone?  I am.  I just can’t get typing characters off of a number pad.  It takes me 5 minutes to type a 140 character message.  Why even bother…

Well, EgoCast comes to the rescue.  It uses a service called Jott, which transcribes spoken messages called in over your mobile phone, and then has those transcribed messages posted to Twitter, Jaiku and/or your Wordpress blog.

There are three simple steps.

1. Create your EgorCast account and get an email address through them.
2. Put in your Twitter, Jaiku and/or Wordpress account information.
3. Add your EgorCast email account to Jott.

I needed to set up a Jott account because I had never used the service before.  It’s pretty neat.  Using your mobile phone you can have spoken messages transcribed and delivered to your inbox or emailed to your contacts.  This is definitely an application I will use for more than just EgorCast. 

Anyway, back to EgorCast.  The service worked great for me with Twitter and Jaiku.  I didn’t try it on my blog because I didn’t want my tweets as blog posts.  The biggest drawback with EgorCast is that the messages you call in will go to all of the applications you have put in your profile.  So, if you have your Twitter, Jaiku and Wordpress accounts all set up the same message will go to all three.  I suppose a hack would be to create a EgorCast account for each application and then a contact for each in Jott.

Basically EgorCast is a mashup where you call in your message to Jott and it is transcribed then emailed to EgorCast.  They in turn access your Twitter, Jaiku and/or Wordpress accounts and post the message.  It’s pretty basic but keeps me from trying to type a text message on my cellphone.
