Get Details on Website Visitors With Clicky

I have to say that my blog doesn’t get a whole lot of traffic and when I look at my site statistics with Google Analytics it can be depressing and down right confusing with all the information like goal conversion tracking and visitor segment performance. It reminds me of a college statistics course . Of course those who read my blog using a RSS reader or through email subscriptions don’t show up with a website analytic program but even still…

Instead I’ve been using a nice, easy to understand web analytic application called Clicky and I just love it. If the traffic to my blog grows, Google Analytics might be the application I rely on but these days I use Clicky because it gives me detailed information on my blog visitors in a simple, easy to read format. I don’t have to be analytical to use Clicky!

Clicky was originally designed for use with blogs and to complement other web analyzers like Google Analytics. And where it succeeds is with giving detailed information about visitors like IP addresses, geolocation, what web browser they use, operating system, how many items they clicked on, length of visit and where they came from (like a search engine or technorati). If they came from a search engine it will also give you the search term used to find your site.

Once you have installed the two lines of code on your webpage or blog you can start seeing your visitors information in about 15 to 30 minutes. You can block IP addresses, like your own, so they are not counted or displayed. You can subscribed to your web stats via RSS feed which is pretty neat. You can also see real time visitors to your site using Clicky’s Spy option.

Clicky is good for

tracking information on individual visitors by user sessions.

seeing what links within your site visitors have clicked on.

seeing who is linking to you and what search terms are driving traffic to your site or blog.

simple, straight-forward web statistics and traffic.

smaller sites and blogs, with less than 10,000 page views a day.

Clicky just announced their pricing structure with two levels of service — free and premium. Free accounts are for sites and blogs with less than 1,000 page views per day and does not include RSS feeds and Spy and only 7 days of detailed history. Paid accounts are for sites with more than 1,000 page views per day or if you want RSS feeds, Spy and up to 1 year of detailed history. Paid accounts are $1.99 per month or $14.99 per year. They may be planning on increasing those rates over the next few months depending on demand for their service.

The one thing I would love to see in Clicky is outbound links visitors click on, especially useful to see if people are clicking on links in blog posts or my blogroll. MyBlogLog does this but doesn’t give me the stats that Clicky provides. I would find outbound links useful enough that I would sign up for their premium service.

Clicky is in constant development and are planning new features such as watchlists/favorites where you can save IP addresses, search queries and domain names in watchlist for easy viewing, trend analysis, the ability to export your data and a customized dashboard. If Google Analytics is too analytical for you, check out Clicky and see if it gives you the information you need to track site/blog visitors.

Let me know if you like Clicky or if you are using another web analytics program that you love.
