Is KillerStartups a Killer?
I think so — a killer in this sense is a good thing. I’ve been visiting KillerStartups over the past week and really like what I see. The site design is minimal and navigation is about as simple as it can get. One might get the feeling at first glance that KillerStartups is a digg clone but all you need to do is click on one of the reviews to see it is much more than that. It offers many of the features that are expected on user-driven such as bookmarking tools, a voting system and comments.
KillerStartups reviews around 20 startups per day. The reviews provide a description of the startup, why it might be a killer and asks some questions about what might stand in the way of becoming a killer. A file card is located at the end of the review providing information about the startup. Users can vote indicating whether they think the startup will go IPO, get venture capital, be bought, survive, or the dreaded bomb.
Some of the features I like are
- Easily accessible information on a startup right on the front page. I don’t have to go digging for the link to the startup, I can add it to the different social networks, vote if I think it’s a killer and email it off to a friend.
- More detailed information and voting system on the review page.
- Similar startups I might be interesting in based on what I am viewing.
- Ability to look at startups added today, yesterday, Top 10 Killers List, and of course by category and tags.
KillerStartups just celebrated their 3 month anniversary and already have reviewed 1000 startups. That’s a lot of work! So, go over and check out their site. Tell me, will you participate in voting on which startups you think are killers and which ones will bomb?
