Mika: Music to Listen to While Blogging

Debut Album Life In Cartoon Motion In Stores NOWI find it serendipitous that tonight’s Open Mike over at Successful Blog’s is We’re Talking About Song Lyrics because I have been listening to Mika, a new artist I stumbled across a couple of weeks ago and how I can’t get his songs out of my head.  His voice reminds me so much of Freddie Mercury, the once  and famously talented lead singer of Queen my all time favorite band.  I remember Queen with fond memories, seeing them in concert in the late 70s and feeling like the music had died the day Freddie Mercury died.  It still makes me sad to have lost such a talented soul.

Listen to Mika here.

Mika’s music is part of the British pop invasion that seems to be happening this year, ala Lily Allen, having a wonderful tempo, sometimes a reggae-Caribbean feel, other times like modern day disco (don’t ask–it’s the only way I can describe it).  There are songs that are even reminiscent of Queen like Big Girl (You Are Beautiful) sounds like Fat Bottom Girls.

The beat of the songs makes me type in sync on my keyboard while the lyrics don’t require too much mental thought that I find I’m singing the choruses loud and strong and not even realizing it.  My poor neighbors and my cat thinks I’m crazy!

What’s set of lyrics is sticking in my head right now.  Here goes, you ready for it…

Sucking too hard on your lollipop, oh love’s gonna get you down,

sucking too hard on your lollipop, oh love’s gonna get you down.

Say love, say love,

oh love’s gonna get you down.

Say love, say love,

oh love’s gonna get you down.

Even better and when you here the song you’ll understand why I want this to me a ringtone on my cell phone is

Everybody’s gonna love today, gonna love today, gonna love today

Everybody’s gonna love today, gonna love today

Anyway you want to, anyway you’ve got to

Love love me, love love me, love love

You can listen to samples of all of Mika’s Songs on Life in Cartoon Motion at Amazon.  Either you will love him or hate him.  The reviews on Amazon are great.  The test of time will be if he can deliver a second album.  He’s only 23 so he has plenty of time, though that’s what I thought about Freddie.

Also, check out his music video, Grace Kelly on YouTube.

I can’t believe I am listening to these youngsters.  Both Mika and Lily Allen could be my grandchildren.  I guess I’m just very young at heart still.

As for Liz’s Open Mike at Successful Blog this will be my first time there.   Each Open Mike Nite a topic is picked and discussed through leaving comments.  Liz describes it as “something between a live video game, live TV and a bunch of kids with a BIG imagination.”  It sounds like fun so if you get a chance go over and join in.  See you there.
