Mossberg finally finds Netvibes
I subscribe to and read the online version of Wall St. Journal each day and always look forward to Walter Mossberg’s column, Personal Technology, that is published on Thursday. So, today I was quite surprised to read in his column, Desktop Modules Help to Personalize Data, Cut Through Clutter (you can try the link but I think you have to be an online subscriber to access his column), about a new application called Netvibes which allows a personal to create a page with personalized headlines from all over the web.
My surprise is over the word “new.” I’ve been using Netvibes as my personalized start page since the beginning of June and wrote a brief post, Netvibes & Personalized Homepages, on June 6th. Since that time I have expanded on the number of tabs I have to meet my needs including a tab for Web 2.0 news and feeds, del.icio.us bookmarks, digg, news, press releases, shopping, and miscellaneous blogs I read daily. And, lo and behold a Wall St. Journal tab!
I love Netvibes. It is my connection to what is news on the Internet daily. I would be lost without it. It cuts down on the amount of time I have to look at websites and blogs to find out what is happening each day, especially with technology and web applications. Netvibes also has what is called an ecosystem that is comprised of modules, feeds and preconfigured tabs to help create the perfect start page.
Netvibes may be new for Walter Mossberg but it has been my personalized portal to the web each day for almost 9 months. I am a committed user of Netvibes…
I do need to admit that I have been trying out some of my feeds on Google Reader because I have read a great deal of positive reviews about it. Where Google Reader might fit into my daily reading is with the new blogs I read that deal with the interesting world of blogging. The way Google Reader aggregates feeds so that I can browse through a category is appealing. But, that is for another post.
If you are looking for a start page that can be personalized with modules and feeds I suggest checking out Netvibes. If Walter Mossberg recommends it then you can be sure it is a winner.
