myTriggers Pulls Out All of the Stops With ShopBIG
myTriggers, a persistent shopping search engine I reviewed here, has announced the beta launch of a new comparison search engine called ShopBIG. I am a fan of myTriggers having used it quite a bit over the last 9 months, for holiday shopping and electronic items that I patiently waited for price drops. myTriggers has had a lot of upgrades since I reviewed it back in August 2006 but now you can get the same functions of having price alerts for saved items sent to you as well as a comprehensive comparison and user reviews shopping site with ShopBIG.
The good news is that if you signed up for myTriggers your account name and password will work on ShopBIG. It will even bring over your saved searches and alerts from myTriggers. That many not sound like much but how many times have things upgraded and you find you have to sign up all over again or download something new. ShopBIG is simple, straightforward and does what is says it does.
How Easy Is It … As Simple as Search, Select and Compare!
It’s easy to search for products and ShopBIG has the standard sidebar where you can narrow your results by price, by merchant, brand or check out related searches. I searched for the Apple 80GB ipod and chose the white one from the search results. From there I can see
- product details.
- aggregated user reviews taken from merchant sites.
- and price comparison from retailers and auctions from eBay.
Why Use ShopBIG?
Good questions. The search and result screens look like other shopping comparison sites like PriceGrabber and Shopping.com. So what makes this different from other shopping comparison sites? Just a few points…
- ShopBIG searches eBay auctions (you can turn auctions off if you don’t want them in search results).
- ShopBIG has a live search feature to help focus your search so you get exactly what you want in your results.
- ShopBIG’s advanced search lets you put in minimum and maximum price, the ability to search for exact phrase or to exclude words/phrases.
- User reviews are aggregated from merchant sites like Amazon.com, New Egg
- Lastly, I like the company myTriggers and I know that they are making money off of their affiliate links and I want to support them — how’s that for logic!
While sites like PriceGrabber, Shopping.com and cNet may have more stores to select and each of them have certain features that ShopBIG has, I think that ShopBIG has the total package. They are adding retailers and products daily to give better search results and looking for feedback while the site is in beta (if this is beta, I can’t wait for the product launch).
Final Verdict…
I love giving a positive review, especially to a shopping site since I love shopping and finding a bargain. I love the ability to have eBay auctions included or excluded from search results and the persistent search engine driven by myTriggers that alerts me to merchants who have the product I want at a price I am willing to pay. ShopBIG will replace my use of myTriggers and them some. Check it out!
