Playable Music Search With SeeqPod

I love finding new music and applaud any site that helps me to that end. SeeqPod not only helps me find new music but gives me music I can play in their player and build playlists to share with others. Described in their own words, SeeqPod

empowers users by allowing them to search and discover music and video all over the Web. Our intelligent software robots work with targeted crawling systems to auto-submit content to the site. This, combined with user submissions, results in a large and rich search and discovery index. This process can be viewed in real-time via the PodCrawler.

There are three ways of finding music with SeeqPod.

  1. PodCrawler: The PodCrawler is a scrolling list of music that is being found by SeeqPod at any given moment. You can pause the scrolling, send a list over to the SeeqPod player, listen and discover new music. I like this because I am always in the market for finding new musicians and bands.
  2. Search: You can search for artists or song title and the results contain playable music or videos that you can then send to the SeeqPod player.
  3. Discovery: With this option you can discover related artists based on the the artist or song you enter. This is my favorite option allowing me to find new artists based on my music tastes.

SeeqPod also has created a mobile version where you can perform the same searches as above but also alphabetically browse artists and top playlists in an iPod-type configuration.

What lacks in SeeqPod is a community where people share their playlists and music discoveries with each other. If I hadn’t searched around a bit I wouldn’t have found that on the mobile version you can browse other people’s playlists. It’s not necessary to have a large social networking component but I would love to see what kinds of music other people using the site are finding.

Another feature that might be of benefit, especially in new music discovery and sharing playlists is the ability to tag music by genre. It’s great that you can put and artist or song into the search engine and get back related artists but it would be great if you could do that in searching through playlists. It certainly would be a bonus for the mobile version.

Overall, I like SeeqPod. It’s a nice way to discover new music and also create playlists to share with others, either through email or on my blog. It’s nice that I don’t have to upload music to share with others, that SeeqPod scours the internet for the music I want to listen to and share.

Here is my playlist for a band that I have fallen in love with recently called Blackfield.
