Review of FoxyTunes - Control any media player while surfing the Web and more…

Rated as 5/5 on May 19 2007 by Ellen

Listening to music while I work away on my computer is a necessity these days. I am on the Internet more and more and I use both Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox for my browsing (I have to use IE7 for a couple of applications but more and more I’ve been using Firefox). Either way doesn’t matter when it comes to using the tools provided by FoxyTunes that make my music listening even more pleasurable.

Back in December I wrote, Control Your Media Player In Your Browser With FoxyTunes, where I explained all the wonderful features of the FoxyTunes add-on that works with most of the popular media players and Windows, Linux and Mac OS X operating systems. I use Winamp and FoxyTunes works seamlessly. While surfing the net and listening to music I always know what is playing which is quite nice, especially when I am listening to Internet radio through Winamp. It also works with last.fm and Pandora. If you are an avid music listener and web surfer this is a nice add-on to have.

On top of the add-on there is also FoxyTunes Planet which is a music aggregator that aggregates music videos, photos, news, bios and much more from music sites all over the Web onto one page.

FoxyTunes Planet

I’ve circled the FoxyTunes add-on in the image above. When I click on the song being played, FoxyTunes Planet opens up with all the information I need about the artist/band. It’s really quite nice, especially when I am listening to a new artist. If you don’t want to use the add-on you can still go to FoxyTunes Planet and perform a search.

It’s nice to have all the information on an artist/band on one page. I did a search on Lily Allen and it brought up her music videos on YouTube, Lily Allen Radio through Pandora, similar artists on last.fm and her albums on Amazon. You can also bookmark an artist, email page to a friend and write a blog post (FoxyTunes gives you the code to embed in your blog).

The last neat tool that FoxyTunes has is TwitterTunes. If you use Twitter then you can post to Twitter the song you are listening to and it will include a link to the artist on FoxyTunes Planet. Another nice feature of TwitterTunes is that it will also post a link to the website you’re currently browsing, video you’re watching and more.

I think this whole combination of tools and information is awesome. I can’ think of a better way of writing my post than listening to my music, being able to see who I am listening to by looking at my toolbar in my browser, have the ability to get more information on that artist and then twitter about it to my friends. Foxytunes is definitely a 5 star product!
