Revolution Health Launches with offer for free premium membership
Revolution Health, the brainchild of former AOL chair Steve Case, has launched and is offering a year free membership to those who participate actively on their site. The site offers both free and paid services to help consumers better navigate the daunting world of health care. Their aim is to build the world’s best health site with high levels of personalization and a strong sense of community.
Revolution Health is a very comprehensive site covering all areas of health care. The site is broken down into the following areas
- My Revolution - As a registered member you can create a health portfolio to keep track of your medical history, allergies, doctors and hospitals. You are also able to set up your profile for others to view and keep track of your participation on the site.
- Toolkit - A collection of free calculators, assessments and trackers to measure your wellness and keep you healthy.
- Healthy Living - A collection of resources on healthier living covering topics like food and nutrition, fitness, natural health, pregnancy, women’s health, men’s health and caregiving. There is a lot of useful information here as well a free personalized 6 week program to help you meet your health goals.
- Conditions and Treatments - Find everything you need to know about a specific condition and its treatments. Users rate resources to help you find the best information. Also connects to forums and blogs to learn from others living or dealing with specific conditions.
- Doctors and Hospitals - Locate doctors, find medical specialists and hospitals. Rate your doctors and hospitals and see what others say.
- Insurance - Here you compare and manage your health plans.
- Learn from Others - Read or write about health experiences. Join discussions, read reviews, read blogs and meet other people.
- Member Central - This will be a paid, premium service where you get live assistance giving you aid in finding answers to health problems, locating doctors and hospitals, and helping you make sense of medical bills. Membership also includes Health Records Express where you can store all your medical records securely and fax up to 50 pages free of charge, and Health Expense Manager where you can keep track of all your medical bills and insurance claims.
Free 2007 Membership: Click here if you want to receive a free 2007 membership to the Member Central services. You’ll need to register for a Revolution Health account and then fill in a form and agree to their terms. This is a limited offer and in order to keep your membership free you agree to
- participating on the site by signing in at least once a month. (I’m going to put a reminder in my calendar to log in at least once a month.)
- try one new feature at least once a quarter. Emails will be sent with new features to try out.
- participate in at least 2 surveys during 2007.
They aren’t asking for much to get their paid services for free. According to the Wall St. Journal, paid membership for the premium services will be about $100 a year. It’s nice to have a 2007 free to see if having the additional services is worth $100 a year. I guess that depends on the amount of time and effort one spends on health care during the year. Even without the premium services, Revolution Health offers a lot to a free but registered member.
I am just starting with Revolution Health and there seems to be a lot to do, much to read, and surveys and forms to fill out to help manage my health. Will it be worth it? Stay tuned and I will give some feedback in the next week or so.
In the meantime, do you think it is worth the time, effort and eventually money to have all your medical information at your fingertips and the ability to make one phone call to get answers to your medical questions? Is there another site, like WebMd, or software application you use to store and keep up to date on medical issues? Even using a secure server, are you concerned about putting your medical records and information online?
Let me know and stay tuned…
