Tunefind Helps You Find the Name of That Tune from TV Shows and Movies
I don’t know about you but I get so frustrated at times when I hear a really neat song on a television show and then can’t find out the name of the song or the artist. Some shows will list the music featured in an episode while others act like the show aired with no music at all. Well, Tunefind is trying to list all the music for television shows and movies. Tunefind is only beginning to tap its potential but is filling a need I find to be important.
With Tunefind it is easy to find shows and movies and the site is very easy to navigate. Looking at the music for Grey’s Anatomy shows the most recent season and is easy to change to earlier seasons. Click on the name of the song and you are taken to iTunes store if you have iTunes on your computer. Click on the name of an artist and see what other shows and movies their music has been featured.
Some shows on Tunefind have been populated very well with featured music while other shows, say like the Bionic Woman, have no music listed at all. It may be that at this time only the creators of the site add music to shows and there are just too many television shows to keep track of each week. Visitors can fill out a comment form if they know music that was played in an episode but there is no specific submit form. There is a nice feature where users can flag whether a song or artist is wrong.
A right sidebar shows most recent additions, hot songs, recent popular artists and all-time popular artists. I really like the sidebar because it introduces me to songs and artists that I have never heard before and gives me a chance to go find their music. I just wish their were a link right there to the song so I could here it…instant gratification.
As I said at the start of this post, Tunefind is just touching the surface of what it could become. My suggestions to bring Tunefind to the next level include the following.
- Allow registered users to submit songs and artists in real time. The creators of the site could start off with users who have consistently submitted songs through their current contact form and slowly open it up to all registered users. Their flagging system would help weed out wrong songs/artists.
- Institute a rating system for users showing the number of correct songs submitted and number of incorrect songs. That way users who submit incorrect songs frequently would be discredited.
- Some people don’t have iTunes installed so it would be helpful to have an option of another site to listen to music. My suggestion would be to link to Amazon allowing the site creators to make some affiliate earnings if people purchase music. Amazon usually has sample of songs on artist cds that people can listen to before purchase.
- A great feature would be to have a sample of the song for people to hear right next to the listing. I don’t know how complicated that becomes but it certainly could be something to plan for the future.
- Allow registered users to save their favorite shows so when they visit the site they can see what music was played on the most recent episodes.
Some of what I have suggested may already be in the works. I hope so because Tunefind is filling a need for all of us who want to know who singing that great song on the television show we are watching. I have joined the site and hopefully I can contribute songs I know to help this site flourish because like the site says,
We’re on our way to becoming the Internet’s most comprehensive list of television and movie music and songs. With your help, we can build this index for everyone.
