What To Do With All Those Mile and Points?

Do you belong to your airline’s frequent flyer program — or more than one airline program?  How about a frequent shopper program like American Express Membership Rewards?  ChanceRewards? Cruisepoints?  If so, keep reading about Points.com where you track, swap, earn, buy, gift, share and redeem your miles and points.

 Points.com partners include

Signing up for Points.com means finding all those cards or statements for your reward programs and entering them into your balance tracker.  From there you can manage your miles and points all in one place — track, swap between programs, earn more miles and points, buy additional miles and points, gift, share and finally redeem.

You can swap miles and points for gift certificates or points into Points.com redeem partners.  Redeem partners include Amazon.com, Crutchfield Electronics, Eddie Bauer, FTD, JCPenny, Marriott American and Starbucks.  Swapping miles and points is easy as long as the merchant is a redeem partner with Points.com.  I like that it shows me how many miles I can swap to get a gift certificate with one of their redeem partners.

You can also purchase gift certificates for a wide range of merchants who are not a redeem partner but you need to redeem them through other programs like Hallmark Insight or GiftCertificates.com.  I don’t know how feasible these programs are and whether they are worth using.  Hallmark Insight reserves the right to assess a monthly service charge though you can use your gift certificate directly with the retailer.  With GiftCertificates.com you have to redeem your gift certificate through them.  It seems a bit complicated to me though that may have to do with how easy it is for me to redeem my Membership Rewards points through American Express.

I registered my AAdvantage miles and American Express Membership Rewards points with Points.com.  I also put in my Delta Sky Miles but I can only earn, buy, gift and share miles, I cannot track or redeem miles through Points.com.  Not every rewards program allows you to perform all of the functions that Points.com offers.  For example I cannot earn points, buy or share points with my Membership Rewards program.

The concept behind Points.com is a good one — having one single place to track and manage your reward programs.  I hope they add more reward programs such as Marriott Rewards.  For airline and hotel rewards the ability to earn, buy, share and redeem points is great.  For credit card reward programs like Membership Rewards I think I’ll redeem my points through American Express.

Give Points.com a try and let me know what you think.
